I realized lately that I am unfamiliar with my immediate surroundings. I know what and where people on my block live but i dont know these people that live within a football field of me. So why is this? Why dont most we try to connect with our neighbors? Do we secrectly harbor fears that the guy next door wants to blow up a post office or is it just simply a fear of the unknown. As Christians, I believe we are called to be a light unto this world, to show what God's redeeming plan through our way of life. Doesn't this begin with relationships and why not start with the people across the street?
This is the first one of i hope many conversations on this blog. Please leave comments and or further quesitons that come to mind. Much love.

I know one of by neighbors. And by "know" I mean try to avoid at all costs. I try to avoid her because she talks to much, and she always talks about the weather. She is a fifty year old single women. She doesn't do much. Sits outside and reads a lot. Her front door is right next to mine (i live in a condo complex--which makes my knowing ONE neighbor even more ridiculous) and when she is out there reading I leave the opposite way through the garage. I make the excuse to myself that I don't have time for her. But the fact is I do. And the fact is she is lonely and I have lived here over a year and haven't even had her over for dinner. Now I have done my fair share to help her out at times, but only enough to make me not feel horrible inside.
We are called to love our neighbors. (insert endless number of biblical citations here)
I barely know, and avoid, mine.
I know the Bible pretty well. I "Hear" it and it's message. But I don't "do" it. And Jesus had some pretty harsh words for those who 'hear' and don't 'do.'
